Randolph County, Missouri
Moberly

Enter Randolph County from the east on Missouri 24. The next Trail of Death marker was located 1 ½ miles east of Moberly in Hutsell Park on the left (south) side of highway 24. It was moved into Moberly to Rothwell Park by the Aquatic Center in 2011. See new location below.

Tuesday 16th Oct. [Traveled 18 miles from Paris to Burkhart’s Encampment east of Moberly, Missouri.]

Left encampment at Paris this morning at 8. Our march was unusually long - water being scarce throughout the country. At 3 o’clock we arrived at Burkhart’s encampment, 18 miles from Paris. The day was quite cold - last night having frozen water in camp. Health still improving. Complaints of sickness are scarcely to be heard.

The Trail of Death plaque & boulder had to be moved because the State Highway closed Hutsell Park in 2011. The marker is the same but the location is now at 100 Rothwell Park Road, Moberly, MO 65270, which is the address for the Aquatic Center. Folks can find parking in Rothwell Park Road across from the Aquatic Center. They then walk the trail to the west toward the Athletic Complex (baseball fields). The marker is in a circle of hickory trees halfway between the Aquatic Center and Athletic Complex. (Photo from Troy Bock, Director of Parks and Recreation, Moberly, Aug. 20, 2012.)
